In a statement on Monday, the Cairo-based observatory said the steps taken by some schools to accommodate fasting students allow them to practice their faith while continuing their studies without added physical strain.
The observatory said such measures also help strengthen students’ sense of belonging and promote understanding among pupils from different backgrounds.
It also commended teachers who recognize their role in understanding students’ needs and leaving a positive impact that extends beyond the classroom.
Sofia, a student at Jersey College for Girls, expressed her appreciation for her school administration’s decision to reduce physically demanding activities and strenuous tasks during fasting hours.
She said the support transformed Ramadan into a calm spiritual experience, praising the spirit of solidarity and understanding shown by both teachers and students, which helped ease the physical challenges that may accompany fasting in a school setting.
Students at Victoria College said the support also included encouragement from teachers.
Ibrahim, 15, and Yahya, 14, said teachers’ understanding and motivation helped them stay focused on their studies while fasting.
The two students also gave a presentation to classmates explaining the meaning of Ramadan and its values, including self-discipline and empathy for the less fortunate.
The observatory said such efforts help foster mutual respect and understanding in multicultural school communities.
