US dollar slips to EGP 52 per dollar at Tuesday COB

The Egyptian pound settled slightly, dropping closer to EGP 52 to the US dollar, according to data from the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) released at the close of business (COB), on Tuesday.

The US dollar reached EGP 51.93 for buying and EGP 52.03 for selling on Tuesday, falling by around 0.80 percent from EGP 52.72 for buying and EGP 52.82 for selling on Monday.

The highest rate at banks closed at EGP 52 for buying and EGP 52.1 for selling, down from EGP 52.8 for buying and EGP 52.9 for selling, on Monday.

The fluctuation is due to regional conflicts and the US and Israel's war on Iran and the latter's retaliatory attacks across the Middle East, including Oman, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Jordan, and Qatar.

At the Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait and HSBC, the dollar was listed at EGP 51.95 for buying and EGP 52.05 for selling. This is compared to the highest rates of EGP 52.76 for buying and EGP 52.86 for selling on Monday.

Meanwhile, the dollar was listed at EGP 51.94 and EGP 52.04 at closing time at Suez Canal Bank, Banque Misr, CIB Bank, and other banks.

This is compared with Monday’s rates from Banque Misr, the Commercial International Bank (CIB), the Arab International Bank, the Bank of Alexandria, and other banks, which listed the dollar at EGP 52.74 for buying and EGP 52.84 for selling.

Other currencies
 

The euro also fell by almost EGP 0.47 to EGP 60.49 for buying and EGP 60.67 for selling, down from EGP 60.94 and EGP 61.07 on Monday.

The British pound decreased by around EGP 0.47 to EGP 69.9 for buying and EGP 70.12, down from EGP 70.38 for buying and EGP 70.58 for selling on Monday.

The Kuwaiti dinar dropped by EGP 2.51 to EGP 169.57 for buying and EGP 170.08 for selling, compared to EGP 172.08 and EGP 172.46.

The Bahraini dinar fell by EGP 2.13 to EGP 137.47 for buying and EGP 138.02 for selling, compared to EGP 139.6 and EGP 140.1.

The OMR also decreased by almost EGP 2.1 to EGP 134.8 for buying and EGP 135.2 for selling, down from EGP 136.9 and EGP 137.3, respectively.  

Other currencies, including the Saudi riyal, UAE dirham, Qatari riyal, and Jordanian dinars, also increased between EGP 0.2 and EGP 1.13 compared with Monday’s rates, according to the CBE.
