During a call that addressed the latest regional developments, FM Abdelatty stressed Egypt’s firm stance in rejecting any infringement on the sovereignty, unity, or territorial integrity of states, or any action that undermines their security and stability.
The Egyptian FM further reaffirmed the necessity of de-escalation and avoiding the region sliding into broader confrontations whose repercussions would be difficult to predict.
He emphasized the utmost importance of prioritizing the diplomatic path as the sole means to contain the current tension, while preserving regional peace and security.
On Monday, Turkey announced that a second Iranian ballistic missile was shot down by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) air defence systems in Turkish airspace.
The first missile, launched on Thursday and also intercepted by NATO air defence, appeared to have been aimed at a British base in Cyprus, according to a Turkish official.
However, Turkey summoned the Iranian ambassador over the incident.
The Iranian attacks come as part of a wider retaliatory campaign by Tehran against American military presence and US-linked interests in the Gulf after the start of the US/Israel war on Iran.
Egypt has condemned Iranian attacks on Arab Gulf countries and other countries in the region since the start of the war.
