The call came as the UN Security Council was set to vote later on Wednesday on two draft resolutions concerning the ongoing US-Israeli war on Iran.
The first draft, submitted by Bahrain, condemns the retaliatory attacks carried out by Iran against Gulf countries and Jordan.
Russia has also submitted a draft condemning attacks on civilians and calling on all sides to stop the fighting and return to negotiations.
During the call, FM Abdelatty warned of the serious consequences of the ongoing war and the widening scope of the conflict in the Middle East, according to the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He said continued military escalation threatens regional and international peace and security and highlighted the need for stronger regional and international coordination to contain the conflict and prevent further instability.
The Egyptian foreign minister also stressed the importance of prioritizing political solutions and resolving conflicts through dialogue and diplomatic efforts, while acting urgently to prevent broader confrontations.
The two ministers also discussed developments in the Ukrainian crisis, with Abdelatty reiterating Egypt’s position in support of continued political efforts to reach peaceful solutions through dialogue and diplomacy to end the Russian-Ukrainian war.
The two top diplomats also agreed on the importance of continuing consultations and coordination between Cairo and Moscow to support efforts to de-escalate tensions and advance regional and international peace.
The US‑Israeli war on Iran, which started on 28 February, has now entered its second week.
The war has escalated rapidly, spreading into Iraq and Lebanon, with Tehran launching retaliatory attacks on Israel and US assets across the Middle East, raising fears of a wider regional war with catastrophic consequences.
