Salah Mohsen converted a 55th-minute penalty to put the hosts ahead, but Lofti Boussouar's stoppage-time equaliser denied Masry the victory they desperately needed before next week's return leg in Algeria.

The first half saw both teams adopt a cautious approach, with neither side willing to take unnecessary risks. Masry, buoyed by their home crowd, attempted to assert control early on.

However, CR Belouizdad's defense held firm, thwarting several attempts from the Egyptian side, concluding the half without any goals, as both teams struggled to find their rhythm.

The breakthrough finally arrived shortly after the hour mark when Masry were awarded a penalty following a VAR review after Mounder Temine drew the foul in the box, and Mohsen stepped up confidently to slot home past Farid Chaal.

The Port Said-based side looked poised to take a crucial advantage into the second leg until the dying moments of the match.

Boussouar, who had come on as a substitute, rose highest to meet a cross and fire past Essam Tharwat in the 91st minute.

The second leg will take place next week in Algeria, where Masry will have to fight to secure a place in the semi-finals.
