Ambassador Dr. Ahmed Ihab Gamaleldin will assume the role of NCHR chairman, succeeding Ambassador Dr. Mahmoud Karem, who has served as acting chairman.

The ceremony will also include Mohamed Anwar El-Sadat, the council's Vice Chairman, and Dr. Hany Ibrahim, NCHR's secretary-general.

The event symbolizes the continuity of the council’s institutional mandate to promote and protect human rights in Egypt. It also highlights the council's achievements and significant contributions.

According to the NHCR's statement, the council will hold another ceremony on 8 April to honour Karem, who has served as chairman from 2010 to 2026. During the ceremony, Karem will receive the council's shield in recognition of his service.

Outgoing members whose terms have ended will also be honoured for their contributions to advancing human rights issues.

On 2 March, Egypt’s House of Representatives approved a new 25-member formation of the NCHR, which includes journalists, academics, and civil society figures.
