According to presidential spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, El-Sisi stressed that Egypt stands alongside the Iraqi government in its efforts to shield the country from being drawn into regional conflicts that could threaten its stability.

The Egyptian president also reiterated Cairo’s firm and longstanding position rejecting and condemning any attacks on Iraq or any other Arab state, as well as any attempts to undermine their sovereignty and security.

El-Shennawy said the two leaders also discussed ways to strengthen joint Arab coordination to safeguard the security and sovereignty of Arab states and confront the various challenges facing the region.

During the call, Al-Sudani reviewed the Iraqi government's efforts to contain the current tensions. He expressed appreciation for Egypt’s support for Iraq at this critical juncture.

The Iraqi PM also praised Egypt’s consistent stance in backing the security and stability of Iraq and other Arab countries.

The call comes as Egypt has stepped up diplomatic contacts with regional leaders amid escalating tensions across the Middle East.

Earlier on Sunday, President El-Sisi held separate phone calls with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Jordan’s King Abdullah II, during which he reaffirmed Egypt’s solidarity with Arab states facing security threats and stressed the need to activate the concept of collective Arab national security to deter attacks targeting Arab countries.

During those discussions, El-Sisi condemned attacks by Iran targeting several countries in the region and reiterated Egypt’s position rejecting any violations of the sovereignty or security of Arab states.

Cairo has intensified diplomatic outreach in recent days to contain the current regional escalation and prevent the conflict from widening, while emphasizing that the security of Arab states, including the Gulf countries, Jordan, and Iraq, is closely linked to Egypt’s own national security.

In parallel, Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty began a regional tour on Sunday, meeting Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim, in Doha to coordinate Arab positions and reaffirm Egypt’s support for Gulf states amid the current tensions.

Following his visit to Qatar, Abdelatty travelled to the United Arab Emirates on the second leg of the regional tour.

During the visit, Abdelatty is expected to discuss ways to coordinate joint efforts to contain the current tensions, reduce escalation, and prioritize diplomatic solutions.

The talks will also focus on preventing the region from sliding into broader instability that could threaten regional peace and security, the foreign ministry said.
