The meeting took place during Abdelatty’s visit to Oman, the third stop on his Arab tour after visits to Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.

According to the Egyptian foreign ministry, Abdelatty commended the Omani sultan’s role in supporting regional stability and mediation efforts, and praised Oman’s restraint amid rising military escalation.

The Egyptian minister also condemned attacks targeting Omani territory as violations of international law and the United Nations (UN) Charter and reaffirmed Cairo’s solidarity with Oman, stressing that the security of the Gulf is closely tied to Egypt’s national security.

During the talks, both sides discussed the ongoing US-Israeli war on Iran and stressed the need for continued coordination to contain tensions and prevent the conflict from widening. They also called for diplomatic solutions to end the war and restore regional stability.

Abdelatty said Arab countries should begin discussions on security arrangements for the post-war period and strengthen joint Arab action to address regional threats.

For his part, Sultan Haitham praised the policies of Egypt's President, Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, and welcomed Cairo's support for Gulf security, according to the Egyptian foreign ministry.

He also highlighted the strength of bilateral relations between Egypt and Oman and expressed appreciation for the role of Egyptian companies in development projects in the sultanate.

Oman has played a key diplomatic role in recent months as a mediator between the United States and Iran over Tehran’s nuclear programme following the 12-day war last June. Muscat has hosted and facilitated several rounds of indirect talks between the two sides aimed at reviving negotiations over Iran’s nuclear activities and easing tensions in the region.

The talks were widely seen as one of the few remaining diplomatic channels between Washington and Tehran before the current escalation. Oman has historically acted as a discreet intermediary between the two countries, including helping broker early contacts that led to the 2015 nuclear agreement, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Abdelatty’s tour, which began on Sunday and included stops in Qatar and the UAE, comes under the directives of President El-Sisi and aims to coordinate Arab positions amid the escalating conflict, as the United States and Israel intensify military operations against Iran while Tehran continues retaliatory attacks targeting US military interests across the Gulf.
