The handover ceremony, held at the Council’s headquarters, stressed the importance of sustaining the institution’s efforts to advance human rights at the national level, engage constructively with rights-related issues, and strengthen mechanisms for safeguarding rights and freedoms in accordance with the constitution, national law, and Egypt’s international human rights obligations.
Gamal El-Din takes up the post at a stage when the Council is seeking to enhance the effectiveness of its institutional mechanisms and expand the reach of its activities, enabling it to respond more effectively to human rights issues and to continue offering recommendations and policy perspectives that support the development of legislation and public policies related to human rights.
The National Council for Human Rights is an independent national institution that plays a pivotal role in the protection of rights and freedoms through monitoring human rights conditions, proposing improvements to relevant policies and legislation, fostering societal dialogue on human rights issues, and promoting broader public awareness of human rights.
