Egypt strongly condemned on Tuesday the Israeli ground incursion into southern Lebanon, and called on the international community and the UN Security Council to take decisive action to pressure Israel to halt the escalation.

In a statement, the Egyptian foreign ministry expressed Cairo’s full solidarity with Lebanon, rejecting any infringement on its territory and reaffirming its commitment to Lebanon’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

Egypt called for the immediate withdrawal of Israeli forces from all Lebanese territory and urged full compliance with UN Security Council Resolution 1701, ensuring that Lebanese state institutions, especially the Lebanese army, can carry out their duties and maintain sovereignty.

Cairo reaffirmed the urgent need for the immediate halt to all Israeli military operations against Lebanon, including ground incursions and airstrikes targeting Beirut, other regions, and UN peacekeeping forces (UNIFIL) and its headquarters, saying these actions flagrantly violate international norms.

The ministry said the escalating Israeli attacks worsen the humanitarian crisis, increase civilian suffering, and force hundreds of thousands of people to flee their homes.

It called on the international community to pressure Israel to enforce a truce to prevent further security and humanitarian deterioration and avoid a wider regional conflict.

On Monday, the Israeli occupation army said it had launched ground incrusions in southern Lebanon.

Israel has been carrying out near-daily attacks on Lebanon in violation of the ceasefire agreed in November 2024, killing dozens of Lebanese. The escalation has intensified amid the Israeli-US war on Iran, drawing Lebanon further into the widening Middle East conflict.

Lebanese authorities report that Israeli attacks on Lebanon over the past two weeks alone have killed 886 people and injured 2,141. More than 830,000 people have been displaced, including around 130,000 staying in collective shelters.
