The agreement is part of Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (KUSANONE), under which the Japanese government will provide $65,742 for the project.

The initiative targets the Fayoum Intellectual Education School in Fayoum Governorate, which serves about 1,500 students aged between 6 and 14 with intellectual and physical disabilities.

Established more than 50 years ago, the school has not undergone any major renovations since it was built. As a result, its buildings have deteriorated, and its facilities have become outdated, making it difficult to provide a safe and suitable learning environment for students.

Under the project, the school buildings will be fully renovated, and new equipment will be provided to improve education services and accessibility.

The initiative is expected to help expand access to education for children with disabilities in the local community.

The Japanese embassy in Cairo has previously implemented two school renovation projects in cooperation with Tanweer Centre, both of which were completed successfully. The current initiative represents the third such collaboration between the two sides.

The KUSANONE programme is a key component of Japan’s development cooperation, providing targeted financial assistance directly to non-governmental and non-profit organizations to address grassroots community needs.

Since its launch in 1994, Japan has contributed more than $11 million through this programme, with this latest grant marking the 183rd project supported by the Japanese embassy in Egypt.
