During the call, President El-Sisi reviewed Egypt’s ongoing efforts and contacts at the regional and international levels to de-escalate tensions and bring the war to a swift end.

He emphasized the shared interests and close security ties between Egypt and the Gulf states, highlighting the importance of strengthening joint efforts to address serious regional challenges and promoting collective Arab security to protect the stability and sovereignty of Arab countries.

The president also expressed Egypt’s appreciation and support for Oman’s mediation efforts between the US and Iran, asserting that political and diplomatic solutions should be prioritized in addressing regional crises.

Oman had played a key role in mediating talks between the US and Iran on the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program, hosting several high-level meetings in an effort to reach a peaceful settlement.

However, after the US-Israeli attacks on Iran, Tehran has retaliated by targeting US military assets in Oman, striking multiple sites in the Gulf country, including Duqm port.

Both leaders agreed to continue consultation and coordination to support de-escalation efforts and restore regional stability, according to the Egyptian presidency.

Sultan Haitham, for his part, thanked El-Sisi and expressed appreciation for Egypt’s continued support for the stability and sovereignty of Gulf states.

El-Sisi’s call comes as the Middle East conflict enters its third week, as the United States and Israel have stepped up their military operations against Iran, and Tehran has continued its retaliatory strikes against US military assets across the Gulf.

Since the war began on 28 February, Egypt has repeatedly condemned Iranian attacks on the sovereignty of Gulf and Arab states and intensified efforts to de-escalate tensions and end the war.

On 3 March, Egypt and Oman agreed to step up coordination to ease rising regional tensions during a phone call between Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Omani counterpart Badr Albusaidi.

Abdelatty met Sultan Haitham in Muscat on Monday as part of a regional tour that included Qatar, the UAE, Oman, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia, aimed at strengthening coordination to de-escalate regional tensions.

During the meeting, Abdelatty praised the sultan’s role and mediation efforts, as well as his support for regional stability.
