In a joint statement, the Ministry of State for Media, the Supreme Council for Media Regulation, the National Press Authority, and the National Media Authority said the move is aimed at preventing offenses against other countries and their officials and preserving Egypt’s ties with Arab nations. They also urged counterparts in Arab countries to take similar steps.
The statement called on media professionals in Egypt and across the region to stop what it described as “negative practices” and exchanges of accusations, particularly on social media, saying such content is not based on facts and risks damaging relations between Arab states.
It urged journalists and commentators to avoid actions that could harm "the deep fraternal ties and eternal bonds" between Egypt and Arab countries, describing current tensions as temporary and warning against content that fuels divisions.
The statement stressed that the ties between Egypt and the Arab states are "a solid fraternal one at leadership, official, and popular levels, grounded in shared destiny and future."
These ties, the statement noted, have been strengthened by historical events and crises over the past eight decades in the Arab region, proving that these relations are the cornerstone for safeguarding Arab national interests.
It emphasised that any attempt to harm these relations constitutes a crime aimed at undermining the interests of these countries individually and the Arab nation collectively, and such attempts are "heinous and unacceptable" from ethical, national, and patriotic perspectives.
They also called on intellectuals and media figures to counter what they described as "conspiracies and attempts to sow discord," urging the public to ignore rumours and unverified claims circulating online, which "only benefit the enemies of the nation, including evil forces and terrorist groups exploiting these circumstances to create division between Egypt and the Arab peoples."
Citizens were advised to rely on official statements as the primary source of information.
The statement comes as Egyptian officials step up warnings about misinformation amid heightened regional conflict.
On Tuesday, Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty cautioned against misleading social media reports, saying Egypt’s relations with Arab countries remain “excellent.”
Speaking at a Ramadan iftar attended by media figures and editors, the FM praised the significant role of Egyptian media during this critical period in the region, highlighting its work in informing public opinion, presenting facts, and countering false claims, thereby raising public awareness and supporting national interests.
He further emphasized that Cairo’s approach is guided by “firm principles,” including rejecting attacks on fellow Arab states and working to de-escalate conflict while preserving regional stability.
Since the outbreak of the US-Israeli war on Iran on 28 February, Egypt has reiterated its full rejection of Iran’s retaliatory attacks on Gulf and Arab states, continuing its de-escalation efforts to restore regional peace and stability.
