Ahly striker Ieltsin Camoes has received his first call-up to the Cape Verde national football team as they prepare for this summer’s World Cup.

The 26-year-old, who was born in Angola and raised in Portugal, opted to represent Cape Verde internationally, having not featured for either Angola or Portugal at senior level.

Cape Verde will face Chile and Venezuela in friendly matches in New Zealand later this month as part of their preparations for their first-ever World Cup appearance, where they have been drawn against Spain, Saudi Arabia and Uruguay.

Camoes joined Ahly on a six-month loan deal in January from Norwegian side Tromsø IL, but has struggled to make an impact, featuring for just 184 minutes across all competitions.

He has since fallen out of favour with Danish coach Jess Thorup, who has left him out of the squad for the club’s last four matches.

Reports indicate that the Cairo giants are unlikely to activate the purchase option in his contract, with the forward expected to leave at the end of his loan spell.
