In a statement following an emergency meeting on Thursday, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) said they had finalized arrangements for the fixtures despite earlier logistical challenges.

Egypt will take on Saudi Arabia on 27 March in Jeddah before travelling to Barcelona to face Spain on 31 March at the RCDE Stadium, home of Espanyol.

The Spain friendly had initially been cancelled due to visa-related issues, but both sides have now confirmed the match after resolving all outstanding problems.

The EFA added that the friendlies were originally part of a mini-tournament set to be held in Qatar. However, the event was cancelled due to the ongoing US–Israel war on Iran, prompting a reshuffle of Egypt’s preparation schedule.

“Efforts have been made to address all logistical challenges and confirm the organization of two international friendlies,” the association said.

Despite the tight turnaround and expected travel fatigue between Jeddah and Barcelona, the technical staff, led by head coach Hossam Hassan, approved the plan.

The EFA stressed that this international window represents Egypt’s final training camp before the World Cup, underlining its importance in fine-tuning the squad.

Egypt have been drawn into Group G at the 2026 finals, where they will face Belgium, Iran, and New Zealand.

The association reaffirmed their commitment to delivering a strong preparation program as the team looks to meet fans’ expectations on the global stage.
