Trump threatens to bomb Iran power plants in 48 hours; Tehran vows retaliatory strikes in kind

US President Donald Trump issued an ultimatum to Iran to "reopen" the Strait of Hormuz or face strikes on its power plants across the country with Tehran immediately responding with a counter-threat to strike US and Israeli-linked energy and communication infrastructure in the region.

In a post on his Truth Social, Trump wrote, “If Iran doesn’t FULLY OPEN, WITHOUT THREAT, the Strait of Hormuz, within 48 HOURS from this exact point in time, the United States of America will hit and obliterate their various POWER PLANTS, STARTING WITH THE BIGGEST ONE FIRST!”

Minutes after the Trump threat, the military operational command of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard fired back, stating that "in the case any attack by the enemy on Iran fuel or energy infrastructure, all energy facilities, communication networks, and water desalination plants linked to the US and Israel in the region would be targetted."

Trump's latest threat comes in an ALL CAPS post on his Truth Social, very soon after he boasted - also in a post on Truth Social - that the United States had effectively “blown Iran off the map,” adding that the US is "weeks ahead of their schedule."

He insisted that Iran's leadership was gone, its military incapacitated, and that the country had “absolutely no defence.”

The US president said that Iran wants to make a deal, but he does not want one, without offering details.

Iran has maintained that the Strait of Hormuz, which carries 20 percent of the oil and gas needs of the global market, remains open to ships affiliated with countries that are not supporting the US-Israeli war on the country.

“The Strait of Hormuz is open, it is only closed to the tankers and ships belonging to our enemies, to those who are attacking us and their allies. Others are free to pass,” Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told news media outlets earlier this week.

Trump's new threat to Tehran came shortly after two massive Iranian ballistic missiles, carrying hundreds of kilograms of explosives, evaded Israeli air defenses and missile interceptors to strike two towns in southern Israel, causing widespread destruction and damage to buildings and nearly 200 injuries, including serious and critical cases.

The first missile struck in the heart of the town of Daimona, 13 kilometres from the undeclared Israeli nuclear reactor which produces nuclear warheads, destroying or damaging multiple buildings and structures.

The second missile struck in the heart of the nearby town of Arad an hour later and caused widespread destruction and damage, and also caused tens of injuries.
