The aircraft, operated by the Qatari armed forces, went down during a training mission early Sunday under the Qatar–Turkey Joint Combined Force Command. The victims included four Qatari Armed Forces personnel, one member of the Turkish Armed Forces, and two technicians from Turkish defence company Aselsan, according to Turkey’s defence ministry.
Search and rescue teams recovered the wreckage and bodies shortly after the crash, the ministry said, adding that an investigation by Qatari authorities is underway to determine the cause. Initial indications point to a technical malfunction.
In a statement, Egypt said it stood in solidarity with both countries and extended sympathies to the families of the victims.
The crash occurred in Qatari territorial waters at dawn on Sunday.
