The Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) dispatched its 162nd “Zad Al-Izza” convoy to the Gaza Strip early Monday, carrying more than 2,500 tons of humanitarian aid as part of Egypt's ongoing efforts to alleviate the prolonged suffering of the Palestinian people.

The convoy included around 1,100 tons of food baskets and flour, more than 135 tonnes of relief and personal care supplies, and over 1,270 tons of fuel to operate hospitals and other essential facilities, as well as winter items such as mattresses and clothing.

In a statement, the ERC said it also received the 24th batch of wounded and sick Palestinians, assisting with their entry and accompanying procedures while continuing broader humanitarian support operations.

Teams were deployed at the Rafah crossing on the Egyptian side to provide relief services, including psychological support for children and assistance with family reunification.

The ERC distributed Eid biscuits, hot meals, clothing, and personal care items, as well as “return kits” for those returning to the Gaza Strip.

It has maintained a continuous presence at the border since the start of the crisis, keeping the Rafah crossing open on the Egyptian side and coordinating aid deliveries exceeding 800,000 tonnes, supported by more than 65,000 volunteers.

Coinciding with Eid Al-Fitr, the Egyptian Committee for Gaza Relief launched the “Eid Joy” initiative to facilitate the movement of Palestinians across the Gaza Strip, easing mobility constraints and enabling families to reunite during the holiday.

The initiative provided free bus transport for residents, supporting family visits and social connections amid financial hardship and limited mobility. Organizers said the campaign is part of ongoing efforts to support Gaza’s population under difficult economic conditions.

The initiative was met with enthusiasm, particularly among children, as families were able to reconnect and celebrate together across different areas of Gaza. Its importance was further highlighted by adverse weather, including rainfall, which made organized transport crucial for Eid gatherings.

The aid effort comes as Gaza faces worsening humanitarian conditions amid ongoing Israeli military operations, which have caused widespread destruction to civilian infrastructure and severely restricted the movement of people and goods.

Large parts of the territory have been severely damaged by Israeli airstrikes and ground operations, while internal routes have been disrupted or made unsafe.

Humanitarian agencies say movement restrictions, combined with mass displacement and deteriorating economic conditions, have made it increasingly difficult for families to maintain social ties or travel to relatives, especially during religious occasions such as Eid Al-Fitr.

Israeli bottlenecks at crossing points and logistical challenges have further worsened the already critical lack of food, fuel, and medical supplies.
