The calls come amid intensifying conflict dynamics across the Middle East, with Egypt stepping up diplomatic engagement to contain escalation and prioritize political solutions through coordination with regional and international partners.

In his call with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Abdelatty stressed the need to sustain regional and international efforts to reduce tensions and prioritize diplomacy to prevent further deterioration that could threaten regional and international peace and security.

He warned of the expanding scope of the conflict, calling for stronger coordination to contain it.

The two ministers also discussed the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.

Abdelatty reaffirmed the importance of continued support for the Palestinian cause and called for the swift empowerment of the national committee tasked with administering Gaza during a transitional phase, as a step towards enabling the Palestinian Authority to fully assume its responsibilities in both Gaza and the West Bank.

He also stressed the need to support early recovery and reconstruction efforts and improve humanitarian conditions in the enclave.

They also reviewed developments in the Ukraine crisis, with Abdelatty reiterating Egypt’s longstanding position calling for a political settlement through dialogue and diplomatic means.

In a separate call with Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis, Abdelatty said the region was witnessing “extremely dangerous developments” and stressed the importance of concerted regional and international efforts to avoid sliding into broader instability.

He outlined Egypt’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to calm tensions, prioritize dialogue, and contain the crisis.

Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s full condemnation of attacks on Arab states, stressing that any infringement on the sovereignty of Arab countries constitutes a direct threat to Egyptian and Arab national security.

He underscored the need for intensified international efforts to prevent a wider regional war, warning of severe economic and security repercussions at both regional and global levels.

He also stressed the importance of safeguarding freedom of international navigation and ensuring it is not disrupted.

The two ministers agreed to continue coordination and consultation within the framework of strategic ties between Egypt and Greece, and to support all efforts aimed at de-escalation and preventing further instability in the region.

The calls came as Egypt welcomed recent international efforts to reduce tensions in the Middle East, including remarks by US President Donald Trump indicating ongoing contacts aimed at de-escalation.

Cairo said it is working in close coordination with regional and international partners to contain the crisis, push for a ceasefire, and prioritize dialogue as the primary pathway to ending the conflict.

The foreign ministry said Egypt has been closely monitoring developments in recent weeks, reiterating its condemnation of attacks targeting Gulf states and Jordan and its categorical rejection of any violation of their sovereignty.

It warned of the “serious repercussions” of continued escalation on regional stability, as well as the potential economic and trade fallout for the wider region and global economy.

Egypt has intensified its diplomatic engagement in recent days, maintaining continuous contacts with all relevant parties to prevent the situation from reaching a “point of no return” and to avoid a slide into broader regional chaos.

It has also stressed the importance of supporting diplomatic initiatives and “positive voices” advocating political solutions, viewing recent signals from Washington as an opportunity to build momentum towards negotiations.

These efforts form part of a wider Egyptian push led by President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, who has stepped up regional outreach through visits and calls with Arab and Gulf leaders, reaffirming that Gulf security is integral to Egypt’s national security.

Cairo has framed this approach within the concept of collective Arab security, calling for unified positions and enhanced coordination to contain escalation and safeguard regional stability.

Meanwhile, mediation efforts involving Egypt, alongside Turkey and Pakistan, were reported on Monday as part of indirect contacts between the United States and Iran, aimed at halting hostilities and advancing a negotiated resolution.
