Since the escalation began on 2 March, the Israeli occupation has unleashed a systematic campaign of bombardment across Lebanon, transforming the country into a secondary front of its broader war on Iran.
Under the operation named “Roar of the Lion,” Israeli warplanes have carried out hundreds of strikes, hitting not only the southern border but also areas deep inside Beirut and the Bekaa Valley.
On the ground, Israel has conducted what it describes as a “limited” ground incursion, with the 91st and 36th Divisions moving past the Blue Line into Lebanese villages, sparking fierce clashes with Hezbollah fighters.
The onslaught has caused widespread devastation, killing more than 1,000 people, including over 100 children and dozens of medical workers, and forcing nearly one million Lebanese to flee their homes, in a displacement crisis of unprecedented scale.
Israel announced on Tuesday that its military would extend control of the border area up to the Litani River, about 30 kilometres (20 miles) from the frontier.
Lebanon's state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported Israeli strikes and artillery shelling in multiple locations in south Lebanon on Wednesday. It also said warplanes targeted Beirut’s southern suburbs, following renewed evacuation warnings for several districts issued by Israel on Tuesday.
Israeli fighter jets were also seen flying at low altitude over Beirut and along the Lebanese coast. An AFP correspondent reported streets covered in debris, including shattered cement and warped metal, and damage to the upper floors of an apartment building following the early morning strike.
The area has been targeted multiple times during the conflict and is largely deserted, as residents have fled earlier strikes.
Lebanese authorities said Israeli attacks on Tuesday killed nine more people, including two in an apartment in the Mieh Mieh Palestinian refugee camp.
Hezbollah said its fighters targeted Israeli forces “massed in the border towns of Naqura and Qawzah” as well as several northern Israeli settlements with over 100 rockets on Wednesday. The statement came after the group claimed a series of attacks targeting Israeli occupation troops in southern Lebanon and in locations in northern Israel.
In successive statements, Hezbollah said the attacks were carried out in defence of Lebanon and its people amid continued Israeli aggression against the country, ongoing since 2 March.
The Israeli bombing campaign has killed over 1,000 people in Lebanon and displaced more than one million, according to authorities.
