“Cairo is in contact with Washington and Tehran in the hope of reaching direct negotiations to end this war,” Abdelatty said, stressing that diplomacy remains the only viable path to resolving the crisis and preventing further escalation.
He said Egypt is actively facilitating communication between the two sides and is ready to host potential talks, describing direct engagement as a possible “last opportunity” to avoid broader regional conflict and a global economic slowdown.
Abdelatty made the remarks during a briefing with regional and international media alongside Minister of State for Media Diaa Rashwan.
He described the situation as a “dangerous escalation” and said Egypt had been intensifying diplomatic efforts with regional and international actors, including the United States, China, the European Union (EU), Türkiye, Pakistan, and Gulf states, to prevent further deterioration.
Abdelatty said Cairo is actively facilitating communication between Washington and Tehran to encourage a negotiated track, adding that Egypt stands ready to host any potential talks. He described direct engagement between the two sides as a possible “last opportunity” to avoid further escalation and avert both regional chaos and a potential global economic slowdown.
The minister reiterated Egypt’s support for Gulf states, as well as Jordan and Iraq, in the face of what he described as “unjustified Iranian attacks”, and said Gulf security is closely tied to Egypt’s own.
He reiterated that Gulf security is an integral part of Egypt’s national security and stressed Cairo’s rejection of any threats to the sovereignty of Arab countries.
Rashwan warned against misleading narratives circulating on social media, calling for responsible media coverage and stressing coordination between Egypt and Gulf countries.
Abdelatty said Egypt remains engaged on other regional crises.
On the Palestinian issue, he condemned Israeli settlement expansion in the West Bank and pointed to efforts to advance the next phase of a US-backed plan that includes a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza on a set timeline.
He added that Egypt is training Palestinian police in preparation for a governance role in Gaza, aimed at enabling the Palestinian Authority to resume administration in both Gaza and the occupied West Bank.
On Lebanon, Abdelatty condemned Israeli incursions in the south and called for full implementation of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 1701. He said Egypt has sent more than 1,000 tonnes of aid to support displaced people.
On Sudan, he outlined coordination with Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States to push for a humanitarian truce leading to a ceasefire and political settlement, stressing the need to preserve Sudan’s unity and territorial integrity.
He stressed Egypt’s “clear red lines,” including preserving Sudan’s unity and territorial integrity and rejecting any attempts to equate state institutions with militias.
