Egypt’s National Authority for Tunnels (NAT) announced a temporary disruption on Cairo Metro’s Line 2 on Wednesday evening after part of a metal fence fell onto the tracks between Sakiat Mekki Metro Station and El-Mounib Metro Station due to severe weather conditions.

In a statement, the Egyptian Company for Metro Management and Operation said electricity was cut off only between the two affected stations to allow emergency teams to safely remove the fallen structure from the tracks and ensure passenger safety.

As a result, train services on Line 2 were temporarily limited to operating between Shubra El-Kheima Metro Station and Omm El-Masryeen Metro Station, with trains reversing direction at the latter.

Authorities said work is underway to restore full service as quickly as possible.

Heavy rainfall hit several parts of Egypt on Wednesday, including Cairo and Giza, largely in line with forecasts issued a day earlier.

The unstable weather affected multiple areas nationwide, with sudden downpours quickly flooding streets and disrupting daily life.
