During the call, President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s firm position, calling for an end to the US-Israeli war on Iran and condemning Tehran's retaliatory attacks on Arab states, stressing Cairo’s rejection of any infringement on their sovereignty under any pretext, Presidential Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy said.

PM Anwar, for his part, commended Egypt’s efforts under El-Sisi’s leadership to de-escalate tensions and contain the crisis, affirming Malaysia’s support and its keenness to enhance coordination with Cairo.

The two leaders also exchanged greetings on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr and praised the longstanding ties between Egypt and Malaysia.

Discussions further covered developments in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank, with the Malaysian premier highlighting Egypt’s key role in securing the Sharm El-Sheikh ceasefire agreement and stressing the importance of its full implementation, including the delivery of humanitarian aid.

Anwar said Malaysia plans to provide additional humanitarian assistance to Gaza and will coordinate with the relevant Egyptian authorities, while also condemning Israeli attacks against Palestinians in the West Bank.

The call also reviewed bilateral relations, with both sides underlining the need to strengthen cooperation across various sectors and expand economic, trade, and investment partnerships, including increasing Malaysian investments in Egypt.

Bilateral trade between Egypt and Malaysia reached $720 million in 2025, with Malaysian exports accounting for $600 million and Egyptian exports totalling $120 million.

The call comes amid growing regional and international concern over the widening Middle East conflict and its potential economic repercussions, particularly on energy markets and global supply chains.

Egypt has intensified diplomatic efforts in recent days to contain the crisis, with President El-Sisi leading regional outreach, including visits to Gulf states, emphasizing the need to prevent further escalation.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has also stepped up contacts with regional and international counterparts to advance de-escalation and promote dialogue.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Egyptian intelligence established a backchannel with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), proposing a five-day pause in hostilities as a step toward a broader ceasefire.
