Brad Sims said the Major League Soccer side would welcome the opportunity to recruit Salah once he becomes a free agent, though he stressed that no formal negotiations have taken place.
“I would love to sign Mohamed Salah, but we have not held any negotiations with him or his representatives yet,” Sims said, adding that any move would depend primarily on the player’s willingness to relocate.
“The most important thing is the player's desire to come to MLS and be in New York. We aren't trying to ‘convince’ anyone; we want those who truly want to be here,” he said.
Sims downplayed the necessity of marquee signings, despite Salah’s global profile, noting that squad balance remains the club’s priority. “Would signing a big star help? Certainly, but it isn't a necessity. Our focus is on building a strong team with the right components,” he said.
He added that the club seeks players who contribute both on and off the pitch, emphasising commitment and character alongside technical ability.
Salah recently confirmed he will depart Liverpool at the end of the current campaign, bringing to a close a nine-year spell at Anfield during which he established himself as one of the club’s most influential players.
New York City FC, which competes in Major League Soccer, is preparing to move into a new stadium in 2027, a development that could strengthen its appeal to high-profile signings in the coming years.
