The Pharaohs began their build-up in emphatic fashion, beating Saudi Arabia at Jeddah’s Alinma Stadium on Friday, setting the tone for upcoming challenges, including a high-profile clash with Spain.
“I thank the players for applying our tactics in a short period and proving it during the game,” Hassan told a television programme after the match.
The 59-year-old coach fielded a strong starting XI despite the absence of injured Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah. Goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir was preferred to regular first choice Mohamed El Shenawy, while Islam Issa was handed his first international start.
Hassan also introduced Real Oviedo forward Haissem Hassan in the second half, giving him his national team debut.
“I am satisfied with the new faces, who performed well during the game,” he said.
Egypt travel to Barcelona to face Spain on Tuesday at RCDE Stadium, home of Espanyol, in their next warm-up fixture.
“We will face top-level Spain shortly after Friday’s game, as we travel today to begin preparations,” Hassan added.
“Spain are a big team and one of the favourites to win the World Cup.”
Egypt have been drawn in Group G of the 2026 World Cup finals alongside Iran, New Zealand and Belgium.
The tournament will be held in the United States and Mexico from 11 June to 19 July.
