Egypt, Qatar FMs discuss regional and global economic fallout from Iran war

Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Qatari counterpart, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, discussed on Saturday the negative repercussions of the ongoing war in the region on the global economy and on countries in the region.

According to the Egyptian foreign ministry, the talks, which also addressed the current challenges facing the world economy due to rising energy and food prices and disruptions to global supply chains. took place during a meeting in the Qatari capital of Doha on Saturday.

FM Abdelatty stopped in Qatar en route to the Pakistani capital of Islamabad on Monday to participate in the anticipated quadrilateral ministerial meeting with the foreign ministers of Turkey, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia, to de-escalate the ongoing military conflict in the region.

According to the Egyptian foreign ministry, Abdelatty and Al Thani also reviewed Egypt’s mediation efforts between the US and Iran to de-escalate the conflict and reach a political resolution to end the war.

They further addressed the measures taken by Qatar to protect its security and safeguard energy facilities, as well as ensure the continuity of normal economic activity.

During the meeting, the Egyptian FM affirmed Cairo’s full solidarity and support for Qatar and all Gulf countries during this critical time, reiterating Egypt’s firm condemnation of the ongoing attacks targeting brotherly nations.

For his part, the Qatari FM praised Egypt’s consistent national stance in supporting its brotherly nations and its sincere mediation efforts to initiate direct dialogue between the US and Iran to reduce escalation and prevent the widening of the conflict, in cooperation with Pakistan and Turkey.
