In remarks carried by IRNA news agency, Ghalibaf rebuked Trump for expressing willingness to negotiate with Iran, while “secretly planning a ground attack."
“The enemy is openly sending a message of negotiation and secretly planning a ground attack,” he was quoted as saying.
“Our men are waiting for the arrival of American soldiers on the ground to set them on fire.”
Earlier Sunday, US media reported that the Pentagon was preparing for weeks of ground operations in Iran. The report came as the US military announced the arrival of 3,500 troops from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit in the Middle East.
The Israeli military says it has “completed another wave of strikes targeting infrastructure” of the Iranian government in Tehran and “additional areas," according to Al Jazeera.
US-Israeli strikes also hit a quay at an Iranian port city on Sunday near the strategic strait of Hormuz, killing five people, Iranian state media reported.
The official IRNA news agency reported the “enemy carried out a criminal attack at the quay of Bandar Khamir, killing five people and injuring four others."
A series of loud explosions was also heard across the Iranian capital, an AFP journalist said. The blasts were heard in northern Tehran, and smoke was seen rising from impacted areas.
The US-Israeli strikes on Iran have killed nearly 3,400 and wounded nearly 30,000, including hundreds of women and children; destroyed or damaged tens of thousands of residential and commercial units, and damaged tens of factories and oil depots.
On Saturday, the foreign ministers of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye arrived in Islamabad for a meeting with their Pakistani counterpart on the pursuit of a diplomatic end to the US-Israeli War on Iran and the Iranian retaliatory attacks on Arab Gulf countries.
