The inaugural edition of the competition kicked off in 2023, featuring eight clubs, including Cairo giants Ahly.

However, the tournament was halted due to sponsorship issues.

South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns claimed the first edition’s title.

"The African Super League will return next year," Motsepe said at a news conference on Sunday.

"We are actively seeking sponsors for the competition," he added.
