The meeting, held virtually on 29 March and chaired by the Kingdom of Bahrain, addressed rapidly evolving regional developments and recent attacks targeting several Arab countries.
Abdelatty’s virtual participation comes as he is currently in Pakistan, where he is attending a quadrilateral meeting with the foreign ministers of Pakistan, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia to discuss regional developments and de-escalation efforts.
According to the Egyptian foreign ministry, Abdelatty delivered Egypt’s statement during the session, in which he strongly condemned what he described as “unjustified and unacceptable” Iranian attacks targeting Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, as well as Jordan and Iraq.
He stressed that such actions represent a blatant violation of the UN Charter and international law, directly undermining the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and security of Arab nations.
The foreign minister reiterated Egypt’s full solidarity with the affected countries, affirming Cairo’s readiness to provide all forms of material, political, and diplomatic support.
He also underscored Egypt’s categorical rejection of any attempts to destabilize Arab national security through direct military aggression, or by undermining a state's institutions or creating parallel entities outside the framework of legitimacy.
Abdelatty emphasized that Arab security is indivisible, noting that any threat to one Arab country is a direct threat to Egypt and to the shared Arab destiny.
Separately, the minister welcomed the Arab League Council’s unanimous approval of a recommendation to the upcoming 35th Arab Summit in Saudi Arabia to support the nomination of former foreign minister Nabil Fahmy for the post of Secretary-General of the Arab League for a five-year term starting 1 July 2026.
