Egypt, Turkey stress diplomacy to contain regional conflict in Islamabad talks

Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan emphasised the importance of diplomatic solutions to contain escalating regional conflict and prevent further instability during talks held in Islamabad on Sunday.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the quadrilateral ministerial gathering involving Egypt, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan, where both ministers discussed intensifying coordination to support de-escalation efforts and prioritize political dialogue over military confrontation.

The talks also addressed ways to advance bilateral relations, with both sides affirming their commitment to building on the recent positive momentum in Egyptian-Turkish ties and enhancing economic and trade cooperation.

Discussions further focused on fast-evolving regional developments, with Abdelatty and Fidan reviewing ongoing joint efforts within the quadrilateral framework, as well as broader coordination between Egypt, Turkey, and Pakistan aimed at reducing tensions and containing the crisis.

Both ministers emphasized the importance of promoting diplomatic solutions to prevent a broader regional breakdown, underscoring the need for sustained international and regional engagement to restore stability.

They also exchanged views on key regional issues of mutual concern, particularly the Palestinian cause, as well as developments in the Horn of Africa.
