Power cuts in northern Iran, Tehran after US-Israeli airstrikes

Iran's energy ministry reported power outages in the capital Tehran, its surrounding region and neighbouring Alborz province on Sunday "following attacks on electricity industry facilities".

`

It said "electricity was cut off in these areas, and efforts are being made to resolve the problem", according to state television.

US President Donald Trump has previously threatened to strike Iranian power stations if Tehran does not negotiate a peace deal, before repeatedly extending a deadline to do so.

In a brief statement, the ministry said the outages occurred shortly after the strikes and that teams are working to restore electricity.

According to Fars, the outagewas due to the bombs' shrapnel that damaged electricity facilities and installations, including a high-voltage transmission tower in Alborz and a substation in Tehran.

Meanwhile, five people were injured when American and Israeli forces struck a residential area in Karaj, west of Tehran, the deputy governor of Alborz province said, in one of the latest attacks on civilian areas.

On Sunday night, the Israeli army announced it had launched new strikes on targets across Tehran, after it had detected seven new incoming missile salvoes fired from Iran during the day.
