In a detailed weather bulletin issued Tuesday, the EMA warned of moderate rainfall that could intensify and turn thunderous at times in northern coastal areas, including Matrouh, Alexandria, Beheira, Kafr El-Sheikh, Dakahlia, Damietta, Port Said, and North Sinai, occurring intermittently throughout the day.

Light to moderate rain is also expected in other regions, including Greater Cairo, Qalyubia, Sharqiya, Menoufia, Gharbiya, the Canal cities, Fayoum, Beni Suef, Minya, Assiut, New Valley, and parts of the Red Sea governorate and South Sinai, with conditions potentially extending into Thursday morning.

The authority further forecast active winds ranging from 30 to 50 kilometres per hour (km/h) across much of the country, with gusts reaching up to 60 to 70 km/h in some areas.

These winds may carry sand and dust, leading to reduced horizontal visibility to less than 500 metres in parts of the northwestern coasts, Lower Egypt, northern Upper Egypt, desert areas, and the New Valley.

The EMA also warned that thundercloud activity could be accompanied by strong downdrafts, lightning strikes, and possible hail in some areas, in addition to water accumulation in low-lying regions.

Authorities urged citizens to exercise caution, particularly by avoiding open areas, staying clear of trees, billboards, and unstable structures, and driving carefully due to reduced visibility and slippery roads.

In parallel, the Ministry of Education and Technical Education announced the suspension of classes in all schools nationwide on Wednesday as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students and staff amid the expected adverse weather conditions.

The EMA advised the public to follow its official updates and called on relevant authorities to take necessary precautions to mitigate the potential impacts of the weather system.
