The medal, one of the highest honours granted in the field of Arab security, was approved during the council’s meeting, which brings together interior ministers from across the Arab world to coordinate joint security policies.

The council said that the award reflects appreciation for El-Sisi’s role in supporting the Arab security system and underscores the depth of cooperation among Arab states.

It also serves as a tribute to leaders who have dedicated their efforts to strengthening Arab unity through sustained commitment, forward-looking vision, and firm resolve.

The Prince Nayef Arab Security Medal, named after Saudi Arabia’s late Crown Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz, is among the highest honours granted by the Council of Arab Interior Ministers, a body established in 1982 under the Arab League to coordinate security cooperation across member states.

The award is given on a discretionary basis to heads of state and senior officials who have made significant contributions to strengthening regional security frameworks, counterterrorism efforts, and joint Arab coordination.

Previous recipients have included prominent Arab leaders such as Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz, Jordan’s King Abdullah II, and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, reflecting its status as a top-tier recognition of influence in Arab security affairs.
