Egypt records 4.9-magnitude earthquake northwest of Marsa Matrouh

The National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG) announced on Wednesday that Egypt's national seismic monitoring network recorded an earthquake measuring 4.90 on the Richter scale northwest of Marsa Matrouh.

According to the institute's official statement, the tremor occurred at 7:11pm local time on Wednesday, 1 April, with its epicentre located 647 kilometres northwest of Marsa Matrouh.

The quake's data recorded by NRIAG's national network of seismological stations showed a latitude of 35.35°N and a longitude of 22.18°E, at a depth of 54.35 kilometres.

The institute confirmed that no reports of the tremor being felt have been received, and that no casualties or property damage have been reported in connection with the earthquake.
