The meeting took place on the sidelines of a ministerial gathering, where Abdelatty outlined Egypt’s position on the conflict, stressing the need to preserve Sudan’s unity and territorial integrity.
He said efforts should focus on supporting state institutions and launching a Sudanese-led political process to end the fighting.
Abdelatty also called for a humanitarian truce as a first step towards a broader ceasefire, to allow aid deliveries and ease the impact of the conflict on civilians.
He condemned ongoing violations against civilians, saying they breach international humanitarian law, and stressed the need to protect critical infrastructure.
The minister reiterated Egypt’s rejection of external interference in Sudan’s internal affairs, warning that it could prolong the conflict.
He said Cairo is engaged in diplomatic efforts at regional and international levels, including its role within the African Union Peace and Security Council and coordination with partners within multilateral frameworks, to push for de-escalation and revive an inclusive political process.
Haavisto, who recently took up his role, said he discussed the humanitarian situation and efforts to reduce tensions during recent visits to Khartoum and Port Sudan.
He also stressed the importance of continued coordination with Egypt to support a political settlement to the crisis.
