Abdelatty is expected to meet senior Russian officials to discuss developments in the region and ways to strengthen cooperation across several sectors, the foreign ministry said.

The visit comes a day after President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi told Russian President Vladimir Putin that Moscow’s international role could help efforts to end the war, according to the Egyptian presidency.

Abdelatty and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov had also spoken last week, stressing the need to de-escalate tensions and prioritize diplomacy in the standoff between Washington and Tehran, with Abdelatty highlighting Cairo’s efforts to create conditions for continued negotiations over the Iranian nuclear file and prevent further escalation.

Egypt has intensified contacts with regional and international partners in recent days, including Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan, as part of efforts to push for a ceasefire and reopen negotiations.

Those efforts include a ministerial meeting in Islamabad that focused on reducing tensions and safeguarding key energy routes such as the Strait of Hormuz.
