Ambassador Alaa El-Din Zakaria Youssef is a career diplomat who has held several senior posts within Egypt’s foreign service, with experience spanning bilateral relations and multilateral diplomacy.

He previously served as Egypt’s ambassador to several countries and held key roles at the foreign ministry, where he managed Egypt’s external relations and coordinated with international partners on political and strategic issues.

Ambassador Alaa El-Din replaces the current Minister of State for Media Diaa Rashwan, who has headed the State Information Service (SIS) since 2017.

Under the decree, Dr Howaida Sayed Ali Mohamed Mostafa was named deputy chairman, while board members include Mohamed Fayez Farahat, Nevine Mohamed Kamel Omar, Mohamed Abdel-Hamid Mohamed Fahmy, Abdel-Moaty Abu Zeid Abdel-Moaty, and Alaa El-Din Kamal Mohamed Thabet.

Egypt’s SIS serves as the government’s official media and public diplomacy arm, responsible for communicating state policies, briefing foreign correspondents, and managing Egypt’s media image abroad.

The body plays a central role in coordinating messaging between state institutions and international media, issuing official statements, organizing press briefings, and facilitating coverage for foreign journalists operating in Egypt.
