Ceramica Cleopatra star, Issa sustained the injury during a 0-0 friendly draw against Spain.

“Scans have confirmed that Egypt international Islam Issa has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee,” the association said in a statement.

“The injury was diagnosed after the player underwent medical tests immediately upon the national team’s return to Cairo early on Thursday from Spain.”

Egypt’s squad arrived in Cairo following the goalless draw with Spain at Espanyol Stadium.

They had earlier beaten Saudi Arabia 4-0 in a friendly in Jeddah on 28 March, as part of preparations for the 2026 World Cup.

Egypt have been drawn in Group G for the 2026 World Cup alongside Iran, New Zealand and Belgium. The tournament will be held in the United States and Mexico from 11 June to 19 July.
