Abdelatty held talks with Putin that focused on expanding economic cooperation, including food security and energy, alongside coordination on regional crises, Egypt’s foreign ministry said.
The proposed logistics hub—which would handle grain and energy supplies—formed a central part of the discussions, with Moscow signalling readiness to expand exports to Egypt, a major importer of Russian wheat.
Talks also centred on key joint projects, including the El-Dabaa nuclear power plant. Abdelatty said Cairo is prioritizing completion of the project on schedule, while Russia reaffirmed its commitment to delivering it.
The two sides reviewed progress on the planned Russian industrial zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone), stressing the need to accelerate its launch amid growing interest from Russian companies.
The message from El-Sisi emphasized efforts to strengthen the Egypt-Russia strategic partnership and maintain coordination on regional and international issues, as Cairo pushes diplomatic initiatives to contain tensions in the Middle East.
Putin, in turn, asked Abdelatty to convey his greetings to El-Sisi and praised Egypt’s mediation efforts, describing Cairo as playing a “constructive role” in attempts to de-escalate regional tensions.
On regional issues, Abdelatty outlined Egypt’s push for political solutions to ongoing conflicts, warning that continued escalation risks wider instability.
He also briefed the Russian side on a recent quadrilateral meeting in Islamabad involving regional and international actors aimed at supporting de-escalation and reopening diplomatic channels.
Discussions covered developments in the Palestinian territories, particularly the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank, with Egypt reiterating support for a two-state solution based on a Palestinian state along the 4 June 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The talks further addressed conflicts in Sudan and Libya, as well as tensions in the Horn of Africa. Abdelatty also raised water security, which Egypt considers an existential issue, stressing the need to uphold international law governing shared water resources.
Separately, El-Sisi told Putin in a phone call on Tuesday that Russia’s global standing could help drive efforts to end the war, as Egypt steps up diplomatic coordination with regional players, including Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan, following talks in Islamabad aimed at securing a ceasefire.
