During a phone call, President El-Sisi stressed the importance of de-escalating the current conflicts in the region to spare its people further instability. He also called for concerted regional and international efforts to stop the war, which is entering its sixth week.

Moreover, the president highlighted the war’s negative impact on regional security and stability, as well as its economic and commercial repercussions for the region and the world.

El-Sisi also affirmed Egypt’s condemnation and categorical rejection of Iranian attacks on the sovereignty of Arab states, stressing Cairo’s support for these states and the need to halt these attacks.

For his part, the Ukrainian president agreed on the need to avoid the consequences of continued escalation. He praised Cairo’s efforts to achieve calm and maintain regional stability, while highlighting Kyiv’s efforts to prevent further escalation in the Middle East.

Zelensky had recently wrapped a tour of the Gulf, where he signed defence agreements on countering threats from missiles and drones with Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar.

Unrelenting US-Israeli strikes on Iran have prompted the Islamic Republic to retaliate by targeting American military facilities and interests in the Gulf region.

On a different note, the two leaders discussed relations between Egypt and Ukraine. They agreed to enhance relations between the two countries, particularly in trade, investment, and food security. They also agreed to explore new opportunities for cooperation to the benefit of both nations.

The call coincides with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty's current visit to Russia, where he held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

During the talks, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s position on prioritizing dialogue as a means of resolving the Russian–Ukrainian crisis. He also stressed Cairo’s full support for all efforts to reach a peaceful diplomatic settlement for the crisis.
