A new wave of Iranian drone attacks struck two petrochemical plants in Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates, while additional strikes targeted a water desalination station and two power facilities in Kuwait, as tensions escalate amid the expanding US-Israeli war on Iran.

Authorities in Abu Dhabi said on Sunday they were battling fires at a petrochemical plant in Ruwais Industrial City on the UAE's northwest coast.

"Authorities are responding to multiple fires in the Borouge petrochemicals plant, caused by falling debris following successful interceptions by air defence systems," the Abu Dhabi Media Office said.

"Operations at the facility have been immediately suspended while damage is assessed. No injuries have been reported," it added after the UAE defence ministry said it was responding to missile and drone attacks earlier.

In Bahrain, the official news agency reported that an attack ignited fires in two units at the state-run petrochemical plant.

According to the Bahrain News Agency, which cited the Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company, firefighters have placed the fire under control, and authorities were assessing the damage.

The kingdom's state energy company, Bapco Energies, also reported that an Iranian drone attack sparked a fire at a storage tank that was later extinguished.

The attacks came a day after US-Israeli attacks on Iran hit a petrochemical hub in the southwest, killing five people, according to the deputy governor of Khuzestan province.

Kuwait’s Finance Ministry said Sunday’s drone attack resulted in “significant damage” to its office complex in Kuwait City.

It said no casualties were reported.

Earlier, Kuwait's electricity and water ministry said two Kuwaiti power and water desalination plants were damaged by a drone attack from Iran, causing "significant material damage and the shutdown of two electricity generating units".

Gulf countries have faced repeated drone and missile salvos from Iran in recent weeks, as Tehran targets US assets in the region in retaliation for the US and Israel launching a joint war against Iran on 28 February.

The US army and the Israeli occupation army have since killed thousands, while Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz against “enemy ships,” shaking global markets and spiking fuel prices.
