The Strait of Hormuz is a critical chokepoint for commerical trade, especially oil and gas moving from the Arab Gulf to Europe and Asia.
Iran says the strait remains open to all shipping except vessels linked to "Iran's enemies", allowing several ships to transit the strategic waterway in recent days.
On Saturday, Iran's Revolutionary Guards said they targeted an Israel-linked ship in the Strait in a drone attack, after it had ignored warnings to stop.
Last week, Tehran said it was drafting a peacetime protocol that would supervise maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz with Oman, state media reported.
Deputy foreign minister Kazem Gharibabadi told Russia's Sputnik state media that the protocol would apply after the war with the United States and Israel ends, setting basic rules to manage ship movements, IRNA news agency said.
Last week, an Iranian parliamentary committee voted to impose tolls on vessels in the strait and completely ban ships from the United States and Israel.
Oman has often served as a mediator between the US and Iran in the past.

US President Donald Trump on Saturday threatened Iran that it had 48 hours left to make a deal on opening the vital Strait of Hormuz or face "Hell".
