Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani "emphasised that targeting civilian infrastructure... is a rejected and condemned behaviour by any party under any circumstances", Qatar's foreign ministry said in a readout of a call with Iran's top diplomat Abbas Araghchi.
The Qatari prime minister also criticised Iran's "reckless disregard for the region's security" through its attacks on its neighbours, affirming that “this escalation toward countries that have distanced themselves from the war constitutes a reckless endangerment of the region’s security and a disregard for its stability.”
The war began when the US and Israel launched coordinated strikes on Iran on February 28, sparking widespread Iranian retaliation that has targeted US bases in the region and energy infrastructure in Gulf countries. Iran has also blocked countries affiliated with the US-Israeli war from using the Strait of Hormuz, allowing only "non-hostile" vessels.
“A comprehensive and lasting diplomatic solution remains the sole option for resolving the crisis, thereby ensuring security and stability and sparing the region from further tension and escalation,” Al Thani added in the statement.
