Egyptian Premier League side Masry announced on Tuesday the departure of Tunisian coach Nabil Kouki after the recent heavy loss to league rivals Zamalek.

The Port Said-based club said in a statement that the club's management has accepted the request submitted by the 56-year-old tactician to be "excused from continuing in his position as the team's head coach."

“The club would like to thank coach Kouki and other technical staff members for their effort with the team, wishing them the best of luck in their next step,” reads a statement on Masry’s official Facebook page.

Kouki’s departure comes less than 48 hours after Saturday’s 4-1 league loss to Zamalek.

Kouki took charge of the Suez Canal side on 23 June, replacing interim coach Mimi Abdel-Razek, who led the team through the end of the season following the departure of fellow Tunisian Anis Boujelbene.

Under the guidance of former ES Sétif coach Kouki, Masry played 37 matches in different competitions, winning 16, drawing 13, and losing eight.

After Sunday’s loss in the final phase of the domestic league, Masry currently lie fifth in the league table with 32 points, 14 behind leaders Zamalek.

At the continental level, Masry, who finished fourth in the Egyptian league last season, crashed out of the CAF Confederation Cup after a goalless draw in the second leg of the quarter-finals against Algeria's CR Belouizdad at the Nelson Mandela Stadium on 21 March.

Kouki began his coaching career in 2010 and has managed several clubs across the region, including Al Hilal (Sudan), Al Faisaly (Jordan), Ittihad Tripoli (Libya), as well as Tunisian sides CS Sfaxien, Club Africain, and Stade Tunisien.

His only major title came with ES Sétif, winning the Algerian league in 2023.
