Writing on Truth Social, he said: "A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will. However, now that we have Complete and Total Regime Change, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS?"
"We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World. 47 years of extortion, corruption, and death, will finally end. God Bless the Great People of Iran!"
Trump issued an ultimatum for Tuesday at 8:00 pm (2 am CLT on Wednesday) to bomb the country's civilian power plants if Tehran does not accept his terms to end the war.
For days, the US President has been threatening to escalate the American-Israeli strikes on Iran's civilian infrastructure and bomb the country into the "Stone Age."
Since the start of the war on 28 February, the US and Israel have targeted tens of oil depots, factories, schools and universities, hospitals and clinics, and roads and bridges, in clear violation of international humanitarian law.
In retaliation, Iran has launched hundreds of missiles and drone attacks on Israeli targets, US military bases, as well as oil and gas facilities in Gulf states, killing nearly three dozen and causing widespread damage.
On Monday, Iran said it had rejected an "American proposal" shared through intermediaries, which called for a 45-day ceasefire, insisting on a permanent end to the US-Israeli aggression.
Earlier Tuesday, Iran’s Mehr news agency said US-Israeli strikes had hit military targets on the key Iranian oil export terminal at Kharg Island.
A bridge near the holy city of Qom and another carrying a railway line in the central city of Kashan were struck, according to regional officials quoted by state media.
Two people were killed, and three were injured in Kashan, senior regional security official Akbar Salehi said, according to Iran’s IRNA news agency.
A key highway in northern Iran connecting the main northern city of Tabriz with Tehran via Zanjan was also closed after a hit around 90 kilometres outside of Tabriz, an official told IRNA.
A Telegram channel of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said the strike hit an overpass bridge.
The Mizan news agency also reported a strike on railway tracks in Karaj, outside Tehran, with images showing Red Crescent rescuers carrying an injured man on a stretcher.
Tehran fires back
Earlier Tuesday, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard warned neighbouring countries that "self-restraint is over," announcing plans "to target the infrastructure of the United States and its allies in the region, in a way that deprives America and its partners of the region’s oil and gas for years."
The IRGC stated: "The regional partners of the United States should know that, until now, due to good neighbourliness, Iran has shown great restraint and considered various factors in choosing retaliatory targets. However, from now on, all these considerations have been lifted."
“We have not initiated attacks on civilian targets and will not; however, we will not hesitate to retaliate against despicable aggressions on civilian facilities,” the IRGC stated.
The IRGC statement comes as Iranian news agencies reported that Kharg Island, which is home to key oil facilities and handles about 90 percent of Iran’s crude exports through underwater pipelines, was targeted in a series of US and Israeli attacks on Tuesday, the agency said.
