In a statement, Cairo denounced the storming and vandalism of Kuwait’s consulate in Basra as a “flagrant violation” of the sanctity of diplomatic missions, their premises and personnel, as well as a breach of international norms governing diplomatic relations.
Egypt stressed the need to protect diplomatic and consular missions and ensure their security, warning that such acts cannot be tolerated under international law.
The statement also condemned attacks targeting energy and oil facilities in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province, as well as telecommunications infrastructure in the UAE and civilian sites in Qatar and Bahrain.
Egypt reaffirmed its full solidarity with Gulf states, underscoring its support for their sovereignty, security, and stability amid heightened regional tensions.
It added that US President Donald Trump’s announcement of a two-week ceasfire could provide an opportunity to de-escalate the situation and pave the way for a broader ceasefire.
Cairo urged that the pause be used to halt further escalation and advance diplomatic efforts to restore regional stability, in line with international law and the principles of good neighbourliness.
