Iranians took to the streets on Wednesday night to celebrate the announcement of a two-week ceasefire between Tehran and the United States, ending more than a month of strikes and escalating tensions.

Iran and the United States agreed to a two-week ceasefire on Tuesday, an 11th-hour deal that allowed US President Donald Trump to pull back from his threats to unleash a bombing campaign he claimed "would destroy Iranian civilization."

In the streets of Tehran, demonstrators shouted "Death to America, death to Israel, death to compromisers!" and burned US and Israeli flags.

Images and videos on news websites showed protesters carrying pictures of the new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, and his father, former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Nevertheless, some protesters expressed doubts about the United States' intentions.

"We sat at the negotiating table twice when America attacked us," one woman at the scene told Reuters. She added that the US might use the ceasefire "to rebuild its strength".

"Will America's nature change? I don't understand why they accepted... as usual, they want to buy time for Israel," she asked.

In recent weeks, prominent figures in Iran’s leadership have repeatedly expressed reluctance in public statements to trust the US in negotiations, noting that Iran was attacked while talks with Washington were ongoing, including the 12-day war.

Iranian authorities hailed the ceasefire as a victory but warned they would enter talks with the US on Friday in Pakistan with "complete distrust".

"The enemy has suffered an undeniable, historic and crushing defeat in its cowardly, illegal and criminal war against the Iranian nation," the Iranian Supreme National Security Council stated. "Iran achieved a great victory."

In parallel, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Council (IRGC) warned on Tuesday that they had "no trust" in promises from the US despite the two-week ceasefire deal, adding that their "finger was on the trigger".

"The Iranian nation's dedicated guards are listening to the orders of the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, His Holiness Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei, and their finger is on the trigger," read a statement on their Telegram channel.

Calling on Gulf countries to end their "cooperation" with the US, the Guards added, "The enemy has always been deceitful, and we have no trust in its promises, and we will respond to every aggression at a greater level."
