The ministry added that the cumulative toll since the start of Israel’s war on Lebanon on March 2 has risen to 1,888 dead and 6,092 wounded, warning that the death toll could climb further as search efforts continue and DNA testing of bodies in hospitals is ongoing.
Several countries condemned the ongoing Israeli strikes, which Israel and the United States claim fall outside the US-Iranian ceasefire designed to halt the war that has gripped the Middle East for weeks.
Pakistan, which mediated the negotiations, said the deal extends to Lebanon. “I am pleased to announce that the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America, along with their allies, have agreed to an immediate ceasefire everywhere, including Lebanon and elsewhere,” Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said.
Egypt, Turkey, and Russia, among others, have also demanded a halt to Israeli attacks and insisted that Lebanon be included in the broader truce.
Lebanon is observing a day of mourning following the strikes.
