According to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Lamola praised Egypt’s pivotal role—under President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi—in reducing tensions in the region, as well as Cairo’s active diplomatic efforts to support security and stability.

Abdelatty briefed his counterpart on Egypt’s intensive efforts to de-escalate tensions in coordination with regional partners, underscoring the importance of sustaining calm, prioritising diplomacy and dialogue, and containing the repercussions of the ongoing crisis following the Israeli-American war on Iran.

He stressed the need for coordinated regional and international efforts to ensure the success of negotiations aimed at consolidating the ceasefire and paving the way for broader understandings between the United States and Iran to end the conflict.

Abdelatty also condemned Israeli strikes targeting multiple areas in Lebanon, stressing the need to respect Lebanese sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, and to halt all attacks to safeguard regional stability.

The call also addressed developments related to the Palestinian cause and Egypt’s efforts to support the Palestinian people.

Abdelatty emphasised the importance of enabling the national committee tasked with administering Gaza to assume its responsibilities from within the territory during the coming phase, with support from the international community to carry out its duties effectively.

He further highlighted the need to support the deployment of an international stabilisation force in Gaza and ensure the unhindered delivery of humanitarian and relief aid into the enclave.

Abdelatty conveyed El-Sisi’s greetings to his South African counterpart and highlighted the growing momentum in bilateral relations, stressing the importance of strengthening economic, trade, and investment cooperation between the two countries.

He also expressed Egypt’s aspiration for South Africa’s participation in the mid-year coordination summit and business forum scheduled for El Alamein in June.
