Fire kills seven at Cairo’s garment factory

A massive fire at a garment factory in Cairo’s Zawiya Al-Hamra district has left seven people dead and several others injured, with authorities investigating the cause of the blaze.

Civil defence forces rushed to the scene, deploying multiple fire engines and water tanks to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings.

A security cordon was set up around the site to secure the area and facilitate rescue operations.

Ambulances transported the injured to nearby hospitals, while the victims’ bodies were moved to the morgue pending investigation by the public prosecution.

Emergency teams are conducting search and inspection operations at the site as officials work to determine the cause of the fire and assess material losses.

Minister of Social Solidarity Maya Morsy said she is closely following the incident and has directed coordination with the Egyptian Red Crescent to provide urgent relief assistance.

She also ordered financial compensation for the families of the victims and the injured, extending condolences to the bereaved and wishing a speedy recovery to those hurt.
